Abstract: The 1991 Gulf-war changed the ways of warfare. The Military Technology Revolution (MTR) articulated as threat to USSR by Soviet Generals in late 1970s and early 1980s became a Revolution in Military Affairs (RMA) in US popular press. Warfare and combat were subjects of highly detailed and focused study through mathematical and computational thinking based on two specific approaches – the mathematical modeling of attrition and assessment of lethality of different weapons through study of engineering parameters, their impact on enabling destruction of enemy forces and achieving missions through maneuvering of forces. Current and emerging C5ISR warfare (where the 5th C is combat systems) integrated with the combat support systems of C4ISR, Logistics support systems, information warfare, and unrestricted warfare has created an unprecedented challenge to comprehend the complexity of warfare. With automated drones becoming the new device of the new revolution and the upcoming integration of hypersonic, nano, autonomous and networked things through the glue of algorithmic intelligence and coming quantum computing providing an ability to continuously synthesize reality, the ways of warfare will not only evolve but transform again.

This talk will present the changes in warfare and also how approaches to model warfare has changed till now that includes mathematical, analytical, computational and even algorithmically – infused “smartness”. 

About the speaker: Navneet Bhushan (Navneet) is the founder director of CRAFITTI CONSULTING (www.crafitti.com) – an Innovation, Strategy and Intellectual Property Research, Consulting and Training firm head-quartered at Bangalore, India, with 12 years of successful operations. Before joining the corporate world Navneet worked as a Scientist at Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO) for more than a decade. He is the principal author of Strategic Decision Making- Applying the Analytic Hierarchy Process, published by Springer-Verlag, UK. Navneet has authored more than 65 technical research papers and articles in various International and National Journals, Trade Magazines and Conferences. Over a career spanning more than 3 decades in the corporate sector, Navneet held key positions as Vice-President and Head (Innovation) with Hexaware Technologies, Wipro Technologies, Infosys, among others.
