Abstract: The questions “what is consciousness?”, and “what are the origins of consciousness?" continue to be the two fascinating challenges in consciousness studies. While the first question leads to philosophical and psychological interpretations of the self, identity and personal experience, the second offers epistemological insights taking ques from biological and physical sciences. In this dialogue and interactive session while we examine the specific and broad aspects of causality and causal power in the context of understanding consciousness, we also try to weave together the continuing challenges, and reflect whether the notion of origin, cause, effect and such binary notions are adequate to encompass the complexity of human experience.
About the Speakers: Sangeetha Menon's expertise is philosophy of psychology. Nithin Nagaraj currently works in the area of 'complexity theories of consciousness'. Shankar Rajaraman is a Sanskrit scholar, poet and psychiatrist.
All are cordially invited
