About the Speaker:  Justice Prabha Sridevan was Judge of the Madras High Court from 2nd March 2000 to 8th August, 2010.  Chairman, Intellectual Property Appellate Board, from May 2011 to August 2013. Chairman, Think Tank to frame India’s IPR policy. Named as one of the 50 most important persons in the IP world in 2012 by Managing Intellectual Property, then in 2013 and now in 2015. Awarded the Justice Shivaraj V Patil award for Service to Humanity.

Judgments as High Court Judge include cases dealing with child rights. illegal executive detention orders, gender equality, disability rights, mental health, protection of water bodies and environment, rights of the depressed classes, regulation of mining and sand quarrying, right to education, right to information, protection of heritage buildings and worth of the homemaker’s work, and was on the Bench which decided the Novartis’ challenge to the constitutionality of S.3(d) of the Patents Act.  Judgments as Chairman IPAB include the Yahoo Business Method Patents, Bayer v. NATCO (the compulsory licence), Sankalp Rehabilitation Trust case (Pegasys), Enercon patents, Fresenius Kabi Oncology v. GSK (Tykerb) and Trademarks like Financial Times, Thalaippakatti Biriyani, Officer’s choice and Red label.
