M. Mayilvaganan
M. Mayilvaganan is an Associate Professor in International Strategic and Security Studies programme at National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS). He earned a doctorate degree from the school of International Studies from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. He was previously a Visiting Senior Lecturer at Department of International and Strategic Studies, University of Malaya, based at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where he taught South Asia in International Relations, Modern Warfare and International Politics. His past positions include Associate Fellow at Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA), New Delhi (2006-2009) specializing Sri Lanka in particular and South Asia in general; Advocacy and Communication Officer at South Asian Research & Development Initiative (SARDI), New Delhi (2005); Research Assistant in the Regional Centre for Strategic Studies (Colombo) project “Terrorism in India” at South Asian Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi (2004); Research Associate in the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies (IPCS), New Delhi (2003), specialized on Kashmir issues.

1. Borderland, Border Communities and National Security Challenges (Ongoing). The primary aim of this study is to examine the changes in the India’s Northeastern Borderland and in particular look at the Civil–Military Relationship. Besides, the study survey’s the perception of the border communities on border development, border security and neighbours across the border.
2. India and the Changing Power Dynamics in Indo-Pacific Region (Ongoing). The main focus of the study is to investigate what is India’s role in the changing geopolitical power dynamics in India-Pacific region? And where does India stand in the emerging systems of alliances formation?
3. Building Bridges: Assessing Opportunities, Challenges, and the Role of India in Myanmar (completed). The main objective of this study was to examine Myanmar from the India’s strategic interest perspective and to comprehend its political, social, economic and military developments.
