The Faculty of NIAS belongs to one of the three Schools and are engaged in research in multidisciplinary areas. The Director oversees the academic direction of the institute assisted by the Dean of Academic Affairs, and Head of Administration.

The PhD programme that was initiated in 2004 has added to the dynamism with exploratory interest in many interdisciplinary areas of research.

The academic staff at NIAS also include post-doctoral and research associates working with faculty in projects and programmes.
