Third NIAS-DST Training Programme on Energy Security and Management

The Science and Technology Policy of 2003 seeks to integrate scientific knowledge with insights from other disciplines and to progressively increase the rate of generation of high quality skilled human resources at all levels. The large pool of scientific and technical manpower in many Indian institutions has not had the benefit of either induction training or a system of regular in-service training that are available to other cadre-based services. In order to bridge this gap, the National Institute of Advanced Studies (NIAS) has been organizing, since 2004, with support from the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, such training programmes. As a part of this process the third Programme on ‘Energy Security and Management’ is being organized for a select group of senior scientists, engineers and managers from various organizations in the country from February 8-12, 2010. The attached Concept Note, describes the objectives of the programme and the process by which it seeks to provide the orientation and skills needed by this group and to offer views of the broader scientific and socio-economic milieu in which the Indian energy system could develop in the coming decades.

NIAS courses emphasize the development of leadership qualities through the integration of multidisciplinary knowledge. The defining feature of our courses consists of interactive sessions with distinguished faculty drawn from different organizations and occupations.

Nominations are invited from senior professionals (with at least 15-20 years of experience) who manage large scientific programmes to participate in this Programme, before January 10, 2010. >> Nomination form

Local expenses of the participants including boarding and lodging will be borne by DST. No participation fee is involved for attending this residential programme, but travel expenses to Bangalore and back are to be met by the respective sponsoring organizations as stipulated by DST. Participation in this Programme is limited to 30 individuals.
